Throughout the site you will be able to read poems and stories written by creative writing students at California State University Monterey Bay in collaboration with students at Monterey Peninsula College's EOPS/CARE programs who are currently receiving aid. California's new Welfare Reform Bill of Jan. 1, 1998 is threatening single mothers on welfare who are currently in college programs, seeking degrees and self-sufficiency. Single mothers on welfare will not be able to further their education. They will have to accept low-wage jobs and give up educational or professional goals they may have for themselves. These are lived experiences and perspectives of women on welfare. These are also stories of listening and being transformed by that listening.
