Recent Publications

  • Professor Villaseñor is currently completing a book entitled "Laboring Cultures: Literature of the Chicano/a Borderlands and the Filipino/a Diaspora." Her book explores Chicanos/as and Filipinos/as shared Spanish colonial and American imperialist historical legacies, labor exploitation as a constitutive experience for these groups' histories, and the way those histories shape their literary traditions.

Teaching Areas:

Professor Villaseñor teaches lower and upper division HCOM Chicano/a-Latino/a Studies courses such as "Introduction to Chicano/a Studies," "Chicano/a-Latino/a Life and Culture," and "Chicana/Latina Experiences," as well as literature courses such as "Global Narratives."

Research Interests:
Professor Villaseñor's research interests include Chicano/a literature and history, Filipino/a literature, and history, working class literature, and theories of transnationalism.

University and Community Interests:
Professor Villaseñor is the advisor for the Chicano/a-Latino/a Studies concentration and minor. Additionally, she participates on the Leadership Team of CSUMB's Reading Institute for Academic Preparation (RIAP), an institute that trains high school teachers to provide academic literacy preparedness for high school students in the Tri-County Area. Professor Villaseñor is also Managing Editor of the online magazine Mujeres on the Verge of a Breakthrough (vergeofabreakthrough.com), and a member of the Modern Language Association, and the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies.
