Providing a comprehensive and current
look into The California State University Information Competence
Initiative, this is the "official" website at the Chancellor's

of the initiative, resources for teaching and learning, systemwide
resources, and much more.

Competence Work Group - CSU, Northridge
In
April, 1995, California State University created the Information
Competence Work Group. Dr.
Susan C. Curzon, Dean, University Library, CSU, Northridge,
chaired this group which was in charge of developing an information
competence program for the CSU. This site provides links that
give access to their reports and details about campus-based
information competence projects. There are also links to other
important projects.
- Information
Literacy Program - CSU, San Marcos
The MISSION of the Information Literacy Program is to infuse
throughout the curriculum the teaching of information theory,
concepts, skills and use of the library to the CSUSM community
and formal CSUSM outreach programs, focusing on those skills
necessary for accessing, retrieving, evaluating and using information.

Competence Assessment Project
- CSU, Pomona
Cal Poly Pomona worked with the CSU Information Competence Work
Group to develop and administer a comprehensive assessment instrument
to incoming freshmen and transfer students at Cal Poly Pomona
in the Fall 1998. The instrument will help establish a baseline
and benchmark measure of levels of entry-level information competence
and computer literacy for all students at the university. We
propose to collaborate with and build on the work of three other
CSU campuses in our geographic area; Dominguez Hills, Northridge,
and San Marcos. These campuses are engaged in collaborative
projects for information competence previously funded by the
CSU Information Competence Work Group. The result of our project
and collaboration will be the development of an assessment instrument
of potential use throughout the CSU. The proposal fits within
the Project Category, "Assessment of Student Information
Competence." It is essential preliminary work to the design
of programs that address the complex set of core competencies
listed in the Call for Proposals.

This site has been constructed to provide a focal point
for the Information Competence initiatives within the California
State University system. Excellent source for additional links
providing information about Information
Competence & Literacy and Information
Competence in Specific Disciplines.
