His scholarship of teaching and learning projects include recent research comparing student learning in seminar discussion with blogging, particularly in terms of how students develop deeper understanding of complex legal issues. Another project examines student use of posters to present historical research. He was selected as a 2003-2004 Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Leaning (CASTL) scholar. In 2005-2006, he was also invited to be a lead scholar and co-facilitate a working group for the Integrative Learning cohort of the CASTL program.

Professor Reichard is also the co-chair of the 2010 Oral History Association Annual Meeting program Committee.
