Weighted Assignments (100 pts)

A. Field Work (40)

1. One individual oral history interview in archive form
One individual field journal of interview
2. One complete transcript of the individual interview
3. Participant observation in local high school and reflection pieces

B. Workshop Participation and Contributions (30)

1. Preparation and active participation in reading discussions
2. Active contribution to preparation of research tools
3. Active contribution to on-line discussion
4. Active contribution to all group analysis work
5. Active contribution to preparation of final presentations
6. Sustained responsibility to group in all collaborative work

C. Critical Analysis and Presentation (30)

1. Annotations of interviews
2. Integration of participant observation data
3. Integration of secondary readings
4. Original analyses and interpretation
5. Appropriate citation formats, argument coherence, mechanics
6. Contribution to final webpage design, writing, and presentation
7. Participation in public presentations

You will work as team professionals in the class. This means being responsible to your teammates. Responsibilities include: Active class and site participation; attendance and on-time delivery of all assignments; on-time electronic posting; meeting expectations of your interviewees, your sites, and your research team with demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility. Late work downgraded by 1 step and not accepted after 3 days. 2 absences allowed (class and site combined). Final grade drops for each absence thereafter.

STANDARDS

Course Assessment Standards

Work is evaluated according to five standards listed below.  A level of 3 is necessary to fulfill the built-in assessment.  A detailed description of MLO 2 Standards are published in the Human Communication Handbook and Webpage.  Specific criteria for assessment will be announced for each assignment.

 A+ = 98- 100  B+ = 88 - 89  C+ = 78 - 79  D+ = 68 - 69

 A- = 90 - 92  B- = 80 - 82  C- = 70 - 72  D- = 60 - 62
