Recommendations

For every university there are recommendations for adjustments. We asked the freshman interviewees what they thought CSUMB can do differently to better the campus. Here is what some of the students said:

Just going to class and seeing how it is here, that's there's what about thirty students in all class and I have gone to visit other colleges like my friends and stuff and they tell me there's about one-hundred and something kids in there classes/ They can't even talk to the teachers. It's like here at CSUMB if you have a problem with your assignment and stuff, you could reach them through email or call them or you can even talk to them in class because there's not that many students. So it's like going good I like being able to talk. It would be nice if the students had more of a voice and everything was not controlled or monopolized. (Vargas)

In addition, most students would like more of a social life on campus. Some did not offer enough events for students to come together and meet each other for social gatherings. Other students felt the school lacked representation of African American faculty and students on campus. We also found that the all of our interviewees made reference to the school not living up to its vision or mission statements the very things that attracted them to CSUMB.

To give each of our students the best education is to give them the tools to obtain the most rewarding jobs available regardless of gender. For this reason, the same general subjects should be required of all students such as English and political science. The glass walls of inequality that line the halls of university campuses act to limit female students and the important opportunity to reach their potential. Both female and male students should be guided in directions of higher paying and more prestigious jobs. A true measure of our greatness will rely on examining any gender or racial and dismantling any antiquated practices that separate students by identity. By doing so is to will enlighten and empower the CSUMB community as a whole.
